Our Community Role

BASU SACCO's Community Empowerment Platform

BASU SACCO does not only provide financial services. We respond to the real-life realities of the women, families, girls, youth, and vulnerable households we serve through community-centered development programs that build capacity, resilience, health, food security, and sustainable livelihoods in the Rwenzori region of Western Uganda.

What Makes BASU Different

  • Women-led and women-owned SACCO
  • Integrated approach: financial + community development
  • Responses to climate shocks and post-flood recovery
  • Girls' education, dignity, and menstrual health support
  • Farmer-led value addition for maize, rice, and honey
  • WASH and community sanitation improvements
  • Rooted in the Rwenzori communities we serve
"We began as a savings group. But the needs we saw around us — flooding, school dropouts, poor sanitation, food insecurity — required more than a savings account. BASU became a platform for full community resilience."

Maize, Rice & Honey Value Addition

The Rwenzori region produces maize, rice, and honey — but poor post-harvest handling, limited processing capacity, and weak market access mean farmers rarely realize full value for their produce. Equipment Support Needed

Rice Processing

Rice hulling, cleaning, and packaging by women cooperatives for better quality and market-ready produce.

Equipment Support Needed

Honey Processing
