Program 2 of 7

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

Safe water gives time back to women and girls.

Our objective

Ensure that rural communities have access to clean water, safe sanitation facilities and hygiene education.

Why it matters

WASH is an integrated approach to public health challenges tied to water scarcity, a lack of sanitation facilities and poor hygiene practices. Basu's WASH program focuses on creating sustainable solutions in rural areas.

What the program includes

  1. Water access projects

We support the installation of water harvesting systems, wells and water purification systems to bring clean water to underserved communities. When women and children have safe water close by, they spend less time collecting it and have more time for education and economic activity.

  2. Sanitation infrastructure

We help build community-based latrines, sewage systems and waste disposal methods that protect public health, reducing the incidence of diseases such as cholera, typhoid and dysentery.

  3. Hygiene education and advocacy

We emphasize hygiene education, particularly for women and young girls: handwashing with soap, menstrual health management and the safe disposal of sanitary waste. This helps reduce the spread of infection and builds a healthier community.

  4. Community engagement

Local leaders and community members take part in building and maintaining water and sanitation systems, so that the infrastructure is owned by the people who use it and lasts.

Come and be part of it.

Whether you are a woman ready to start saving or an organization ready to partner, we would love to hear from you.
