About Us

Why We Exist

Basu Rural Women Savings and Credit Association (Basu Sacco) was founded with a deep commitment to addressing the widespread poverty and financial exclusion facing rural women in Uganda. With over a decade of experience in responding to the financial crises of marginalized communities, Basu has become a vital resource for women in rural Uganda, providing financial services, empowering women, and fostering community development. The organization’s focus is on breaking the cycle of poverty and building resilience in Uganda’s most vulnerable communities.

What Makes Us Different:

  • Equal Rights and Governance: Every member of Basu Sacco has equal rights and a voice in the way the Sacco is managed. This democratic structure fosters transparency and accountability, empowering members to make decisions that directly affect their financial wellbeing.
  • Know the Customer (KBC) Approach: Basu Sacco takes a personal and proactive approach to understanding the needs of its members. By employing a thorough "Know the Basu Customer" (KBC) strategy, the organization ensures that it truly understands the unique challenges and financial needs of the women and communities it serves.
  • Impact-Driven Mission: While many organizations provide financial services, Basu is deeply focused on the transformative impact its services have on the lives of its members. Beyond just access to financial products, Basu is committed to long-term socio-economic empowerment.
  • Tailored Products and Services: Basu Sacco offers a wide range of flexible and affordable financial products and services that meet the specific needs of women in rural Uganda. These include savings accounts, loans, and financial literacy training, all designed with the aim of improving members’ financial stability.
